Sundream: A Summer of Creativity
in Clacton and Jaywick

We are thrilled to run our new project Sundream: A Summer of Creativity in Jaywick and Clacton this summer.

Join lead artists Molly and Sofia at the Jaywick Martello Tower 11am June 30th, for our coffee morning launch to find out more. Free cakes and hot drinks will be provided. Suitable for all ages, with family friendly activities.

What is Sundream?

Sundream is a programme of free creative activities taking place in Jaywick and Clacton throughout the summer of 2025 exploring the local coast’s past, present and future and what it’s like to live here.

Who's it for?
The workshops and activities are for anyone who wants to connect with others, learn a new skill or just get creative.

A new original play

All of these activities will lead to Wise Ram Theatre creating a brand new original play, set in Jaywick taking place during a scorching hot summer. The play will be performed at Jaywick Martello Tower at a Celebration Event Saturday 13th September for the very first time. The celebration event will also feature 2 local writers' new monologues, performed by professional actors. So if you want to have the chance of having your very own monologue performed by professional actors, sign up to our short monologue writing course here.

What will the play you’re making be like?

Ah! Good question. We don’t know yet.

All we know is that it will be set during a heatwave, take place in Jaywick and a large whale will wash up on the beach. But we don’t know who the characters are, what will happen OR what genre it will be. That we need your help to decide.

What!? How does that work?

People who live and work around Clacton and Jaywick or come to any of our events will have the opportunity to vote on what kind of play we create by answering the question “What is your favourite type of story or genre?” E.g ghost stories, action, romance, buddy comedies, historical dramas, fantasy, mystery or detective stories etc.

The answer with the most replies will decide what play we create. Do people love romance stories? Then the play will be a romantic love story. Maybe the majority of people prefer action thrillers, then we’ll make a suspenseful thriller set against the backdrop of the marshes and the beach. And so on.

Help us create a new play
Do you want to decide what kind of play we make, influence the plot of it or the characters? Come to any of our events and talk to us about your favourite stories, vote at any of our outreach stalls (dates tbc) or simply fill in this form and let’s create an exciting new play together!

Where can I find you?
You will find us at community days where we’ll be hosting free family friendly activities, running free monologue writing workshops together with Tendring Community Writers for anyone in Tendring who wants to learn how to write for the stage.

If you are running a community event and would like us to come along, please email hello@wiseramtheatre.co.uk

We are very grateful to have received funding from Essex County Council’s Arts and Cultural Fund, and the  Fowler, Smith & Jones Trust to make Sundream possible.
